Animated image of adulting1/14/2024 ![]() ![]() Netflix’s latest original adult animation focuses on the part of our lives most of us would probably forget – awkward adolescence. Indeed, it boasts a stellar voice cast and array of well-defined characters, manages to balance the poignant and the profane with aplomb, and overall has far more depth than its shock value premise would suggest. Perhaps inevitably it’s been overshadowed by Bojack Horseman when it comes to Netflix’s family-unfriendly animations.īut while it doesn’t quite hit the heights of the equine-based celebrity satire, it still has plenty to offer. F Is For Familyīased on the stand-up of US comedian Bill Burr, F Is For Family centres on the dysfunctional Murphy clan at a time ‘when you could smack your kid, smoke inside and bring a gun to the airport’ – aka 1973. Of course, the Netflix original is anything but child-friendly – over four seasons it’s become one of the weirdest, saddest and darkest Hollywood satires around, touching upon issues of alcoholism, depression and domestic abuse just to name a few. There are parts of Bojack Horseman which make it sound like the kind of goofy animation you could happily plonk your kids in front of for an entire afternoon. ![]()
